How Smart Timing Boosts User Engagement by up to 17%
Problem with timing
When adding popups or banners to your website, they must show up at the right moment to catch users' attention—not too early or too late.
Traditionally, setting the timing for displaying notifications involves choosing a fixed delay, often based on analysis but usually just an educated guess. This approach not only requires effort but also tends to be somewhat arbitrary. Another drawback is that this fixed delay is applied universally, even though users behave differently.
Our Solution
At Taku, we've developed a dynamic solution to address these challenges, eliminating the need for guesswork and offering a personalized experience for each user.
We started by displaying notifications at random times and analyzing user interactions. Our data gathered from a single website showed that optimal engagement occurred when notifications were displayed between 5 and 12 seconds after a user arrived on a page.
By targeting this specific time range, we noticed that the number of interactions with notifications closely matched the number of notifications shown, indicating a high level of engagement.
However, the optimal time range is different for each website. To address this, Taku continuously collects data and updates its understanding of the best timing intervals for each website.
To test the system, we conducted A/B testing: one set of users received notifications at a static 6-second mark, while another experienced our smart timing. The result? A 17% increase in interactions with smart timing.
What’s next
The journey doesn't end here. Our next goal is to refine timing further, considering factors like local time, device type, etc. We're excited about the potential for an even greater boost in engagement.
